Book Reviews

We love it when others share with us their favorite insightful book. It's interesting what new ideas we come across as a result. We hope you-may find something interesting in the following recommendations. Do let us know of any of your favorites that are missing from this list.

SPIRITUAL

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose
A great sequel to 'the power of now'. This book is as much about the impact of our ego and letting it go as it is about awakening to our life's purpose. Of course the book would suggest you can't do the latter until you've done the former! Not a book for the feint hearted but worth persevering.

Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything
I picked up this book whilst in London last week and have loved the voice with which Elizabeth writes. I think she demonstrates what finding your authentic voice is all about. It's about her year long journey: physically to Italy, India and Bali and emotionally and spiritually as she leaves a relationship and gets in touch with who she is. Beautiful.

Heart to Heart
This was one of those books that I was unable to put down until I'd finished. I found it to be so much more than I expected: personal journey, psychic development, personal and spiritual development and insight. When Pea described one of her teachers by saying "I could connect with her down to earth non threatening approach and the way she made psychic development both fun and accessible. In a world that could be considered scary or fairy-like I had found someone who was neither" for me she was describing herself too. The book isn't just about how to converse with a loved pet. For me the underlying messages from the animals about 'love', 'knowing and accepting who we are' and 'stepping onto our spiritual path' is what a Heart to Heart connection is all about whether with animals or fellow humans.

Inspiration: Your Ultimate Calling
I got goose bumps listening to the audio of this book. It just spoke to what was happening to me at the time. I'd recommend any book by Wayne Dyer as he's a great writer, makes sense and walks the talk too.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull: A Story
It's a lovely book and one that I come back to time and time again. It certainly relates to the frameworks for change card of letting go of comparison and 'having nothing to prove'. Jonathan didn't compare himself with others he just wanted to learn how to be the best seagull he could be and then wanted to help others to do the same. It's a book you can read in one sitting.

Maps to Ecstasy: The Healing Power of Movement
Not what you expect from the title. The book explores five powers of: being; loving; knowing; seeing and healing and takes the reader on 'a healing journey through the terrain of the body, heart, mind, soul and spirit - moving you to the limits of the ego to the expanses of the soul'. A fabby book.

Self Esteem
This is such a lovely version of the poem I shared in the intro but seems to be out of print if the £44.19+ from Amazon is anything to go by! Perhaps one to just look out for.

The 100th Human
Whilst this book is a fictional story based on what happens on Dec 21 2012 it's definitely very spiritual in nature. It's based around the 100th monkey allegory/story, group consciousness and the fight between good and evil! So it may not be of interest to all of you ? But then the same could be said for Mr Grumpy and Little Miss Sunshine last month. Even if I did identify the NLP techniques they were using. I suppose that's the dilemma behind this month's theme. Not making it about me and not losing my sense of who I am either. So I will continue to share a breadth of books from business, personal development to more spiritual or childlike in nature. At least if I read them you don't have to if you don't like the sound of them. You never know you may end up going on to read some you didn't expect to!

The Invitation
An invitation to be your authentic self and a discussion about the challenges that can bring. I do love this book and it is one that I come back to and reread often. It's also one I've given as a gift many many times. I normally have 2 copies in the house at any time just for that reason. It's an exploration by the author of the poem I shared in the passion in life section. It's written much as I like to write telling the story of her life experiences and applying them to the learning. She also offers a meditation at the end of each chapter to help connect with the words which can take the learning deeper.

You Can Heal Your Life
This version of this very popular MBS book would make a beautiful gift. It's full of affirmations and many mechanisms for busting negative beliefs in all areas of your life.
